This edition is the result of a very pleasant and fruitful collaboration. It arose in the following way. many years ago, JD (John Dillon) made a col-lection, with translation, of the fragments of the Lettersof Iamblichus preserved by John of stobi in his Anthologiumbut did nothing further with them, being somewhat uncertain whether they really merited publishing, and if they did, what sort of commentary would be appropriate to them. They are, after all, as we note in the introduction, "popular philosophy" and, as such, give very few hints, if any, of the complexities of Iamblichus's "serious" philosophical position.
